E.V.E - A 1990 VOLVO 240 DL
The era of fossil fuels is finally over.
A CONVERSION IN THREE PHASES;
Phase 1: Remove the non-essentials
This means, essentially, dropping all of the antiquated technology. The engine, the gas tank, gas lines, and exhaust system need to go bye-bye sleepy time. SOOO last century!
Phase 2: Install the EV parts
Several main components; the motor, dc/dc system, inverter, charger controller, chargeport, batteries, BMS, wire loom, bus, and dash system.
A roll cage or roll bar also needs to be installed at this point.
Phase 3: Road Test
This process traditionally takes a minimum of three weeks to ensure that none of the cells are running as 'heaters,' nothing is going to fall off the car during a heat, and more. This is also when we go in to get the vehicle inspected by the appropriate authorities.
"Go forth and wander."
The ultimate goal of this conversion will be as a proof-of-concept to all the nay-sayers, the nonbelievers, the incredulous. To what do we say to the critics? Follow us. Watch us. We will SMOKE you. Wildcats lead the way!
Donated to the Electric Vehicle Club and Wildcat Racing Team in the early part of Winter, 2020, this Volvo will be converted to entirely electric, entered into the National Electric Drag Racing Association Circuit, raced across the Bonneville Flats, and driven up Pike's Peak.
BUT WHAT IS IT CALLED?
"E.V.E" - (Electric Vehicle Education)
Early on in the year of 2020, we held a weeklong naming competition, and students from all over the university submitted suggestions for a name. See the list below for the survey results.
The name we chose was a result of unanimous Board consent. EVE is the name of our Volvo.
We left the volvo in the Student Union and Recreation Center "East Patio" (where the Wildcat Statue is) for a full week of Winter Quarter. A QR Code was taped to the side of the car, with instructions to send in suggestions to name the car.
drum roll please...
